CEIN 2011 Trip to Brazil.

2011 Brazil Trip

The purpose of this report is to sketch out what we want to do in Brazil, and then begin to save our money to be able to go! I will be contacting the coordinator of education for BSGI, Mrs. Lucia Takano, once we decide on what we'd like to see and do.

Some of us plan to be in Sao Paolo before everyone arrives and stay until everyone leaves.

The current concept is that this CEIN activity should be run like a SGI activity. We will have at least one day (or more) so that we can see when MIA gets together with the teachers during the professional development sessions to share with them ideas to make classes more interesting or when they do activities for parents, for parents and children, and also the gardening activity. During the weekend we will have access to the Literacy Project as part of the MIA. At these Literacy Centers you will see our fellow SGI members volunteering to teach people who do not have access to formal education (basically Reading & Writing). They also have a Reading Room for people who have already graduated from the Literacy Centers and also for members who want to improve their reading skills. There also will be another conference going on, 'the use of drama in education', organized by the organisation IDEA, which we might look in on. Some people would like to meet with Michel's university students group the group that responded to Michel's letter to the vice president of Brazil about the possibility of nuclear weapons. I'd like to learn more about the mechanisms of the nuclear free zone that includes Brazil. Terry
When to go: August 2011 technically autumn and winter months. Would arriving on Thursday and leaving Monday or arriving Friday and leaving Tuesday. Or have the trip be longer? perhaps a week?
Airfare: It is about $867 to Sao Paolo Brazil from Washington, DC. We fly into Sao Paolo using this airport: Aeroporto de Guarulhos (GRU). www.BACCTravel.com is the travel agent of one member to flies regularly to Brazil from the U.S.

Lodging: We will need simple lodging near the Makiguchi In Action site. We will plan for ten people. Moderate lodging seems to be about $100 per night from the look at the travel websites.

We should have a logo: reflecting world peace, freedom and humanitarian competition with a child trying to put a smile on the face of the world.

WHAT SHALL OUR THEME BE FOR OUR BRAZIL TRIP?
"Forging the UN of Education in Brazil: Identifying Shared Principles for Action"
How Education with Compassion through MIA - Brazil's Experiience ; Creating Value and Sharing Experiences with MIA Educators and Volunteers in Brazil; can help us create the Way

What is our purpose?
What the magic of the MIA is and how to set it up in my local community. I want to learn more about how the Makiguchi Project originated and continues to be sustained, as well as it's relationship to the Brazil SGI organization.

What do you want to accomplish together?
See MIA, discuss how it can be adapted to our respective countries and teaching situations, and get to know each other better and build understanding. And see how we fit together as a baby United Nations of Education.

The Brazil trip be a stepping stone towards our goals – near-term: helping Sensei achieve global solidarity on nuclear disarmament, and long-term – by giving us a step forward towards a United Nations of Education? One idea is we can create a book from our trip - CEIN in Action and we can make a video/podcast as well so we can get the ideas out to more people.
